I just had the weirdest idea. I am imagining a story.
A group of scientist has been working for a few years on a new technology. Something revolutionary, but also very powerful. Something like a solve-all-energy-issues-in-the-world powerful. They struggle to make it work, and in several iterations they come close to losing their funding. There are even set backs. Something dramatic. Maybe even an accident.
Then, they finally have a breakthrough, and their technology seems to work. They have the power now.
But they also learn that some nefarious actor, probably psychologically damaged, wants to get a hold of the technology to cause suffering and pain to mankind. Something about a vengeance on how was mistreated.
Then you know what happens next. Even though they know that their technology would bring many good things to humanity, they now also know that it could be used for terrible deeds. They discuss it, and think about it. They remember all the effort that took them to make it work. But the decision is made. So they gather the only working prototype of their technology, and all the notes that describe how to build it. And just before the nefarious player is about to seize those, they do it.
They try to convince the villain to go for some therapy.
Yeah, it didn’t make sense to me either.
