A few days ago, we were walking the dog, and made a turn at the corner. As we walked on that street, another dog started barking, and then something unusual happened: a lady came out of one of the houses, and she asked us in a friendly voice: “hello, what can I help you with?”
Felt quite out of place to me, accustomed to hear that mostly only at retail stores.
It happens to be, that after a hundred feet, the street becomes a private driveway. Sure, there is an inconspicuous sign on one side of the house, but there is no gate, no change in direction, no transition.
It became obvious then that the lady was feeling that we were walking the dog in her driveway.
If you are trying to keep something private, or privileged, it may help to make it look and feel different from what’s public.
