What’s a sure way to know that a technology is A.- disruptive, and B.- impactful?
Well, when those in the status quo start to notice, talk about it, and -especially- attempting to prohibit it.
So here is the first evidence that AI has just reached the maturity level to be both disruptive and impactful:
As Chat GPT from Open AI was released for public testing, it has been making waves, but early this year, New York’s School Board made advances to ban Chat GPT from classrooms and all school devices, on the premise that it would encourage cheating.
Chat GPT is free (for now), and is capable of producing credible essays that have been traditionally used by teachers to grade students.
To me, this is the reaction of a dying species, the educational system that is still trying to make every student fit into the mold of the average worker and that is using ineffective methods to measure student performance.
What are they going to do next? Ban Google?
