I just removed a bunch of channels on my Roku. While this marvelous little box lets me add to its content almost infinitely, I realized that I wasn’t really using most of the channels. Like all of us, I have limited time to spare watching TV, and I will never “catch up” on the backlog of content.
I left only a few channels. Among them, are the usual suspects. Two for watching movies, one for Cable channels, and one for my own content and to record on a DVR. Everything else, is gone. Why?
The only ones that stayed are the ones that either offer me a completely different type of content or a “killer app”, and those that offer a completely different way of curating content that is available anywhere else.
So this is a good way to think about value in today’s economy, the only things that we find valuable are those that either offer us a completely different experience that we want, or a familiar experience curated in a more convenient way.
