Hannibal (not the fictional serial killer of “Silence of the Lambs”, but the Carthaginian general), has been recognized as one of the greatest military strategists of all times.
Among other things, he famously invaded Italy (and the Roman Republic) during the second Punic wars, by crossing the Alps on African elephants, a shock-and-awe tactic. His strategies often relied on other innovative tactics like carefully crafted diversions.
But what drove him to come up with these innovations, was his determination. He is supposed to have uttered one of my favorite quotes:
