While the tendency is to think that the wheel is a static concept, it has gone through a lot of transformation throughout the years. Starting as just a cylindrical roller, it evolved into the carriage wheel. Then the Michelin brothers put tires on them, then made them out of steel, and now aluminum.
Wheels have also had quite a transformation in non-automotive applications. Just look at skateboards and roller skates in the last few decades, and I am old enough to remember when they first used rollerblade wheels on a suitcase, and now of course the four-wheel easy roller bag.
Would it make sense to say “there is no need to reinvent the personal computer”? Of course, it wouldn’t, because we have to!
