A few days ago, I was pointed to THIS ARTICLE on a major data forgery disaster in a research paper. The article points to evidence that not one, but TWO researchers altered, fabricated, or forged data on the same research paper.
The paper was published with the collaboration of no other than famed Dan Ariely. Ariely has numerous TED Talks and other videos online about his behavioral studies.
And as a touch of ultimate irony, the research paper was about DISHONESTY.
My gut reaction initially, was that of despair. How will be able to trust the science if there are bad actors that can fool us into believing whatever they want? and then, anger, How do they dare?
After a little thought, I was relieved. This is how the whole “peer review” model must work. One member ousts another and calls out their BS. Perfect!
